In September 1993, in a room rented from a bank building, Lowcountry Presbyterian Church began worshiping under the leadership of our organizing pastor, Dr. Frank R. Sells. Before the year ended, the small congregation moved into its own sanctuary, built on ten acres of an undeveloped area near the tiny town of Bluffton, South Carolina - at that time, barely noticed by the locals and vacationers on their way to and from Hilton Head Island. In June of the following year, the congregation of 88 members was formally chartered by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery. Today our church family numbers about 450 people, and our ministries extend throughout southern Beaufort County To accommodate our growing membership and our expanded community outreach, we moved into a magnificent new sanctuary in October 2000, at our current location at the corner of Highway 278 and Simmonsville Road. The original sanctuary has since been extensively remodeled and now serves as our Fellowship Hall and a meeting facility for several area organizations. Both facilities are wheelchair-friendly and have "Wi-Fi" internet access. Thanks to the Spirit-led generosity of our congregations through the years and the revenues received from the state and county in 2010-2011 for a portion of our property taken for highway improvements, the mortgage for our sanctuary was been paid in full in May 2011. Rev. Dr. Jerry Kramer served as the Senior Pastor for our congregation for approximately eight years. In February 2011, Pastor Kramer announced to the congregation his decision to retire from the ministry, effective August 1, 2011. On August 7, the congregation welcomed Rev. Dr. Robert G. McCreight as Interim Pastor, serving in that capacity over two years. Rev. Christine Herrin’s Installation Service was celebrated Sunday, March 9, 2014, in a combined service at 10:30 AM. Representatives of Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery, Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, other area churches, and Dr. Tom Kort, served as commissioners for the installation service. Dr Tom Kort is the senior pastor at Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte where Chris served as Associate Pastor prior to her time at Gaffney. Also participating in Christine's special day were her husband Dan Herrin and their children Jake and Lucy. Worship is the heart of our corporate life. We offer two worship services on Sunday morning at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM, along with Adult & Children's Sunday School at 9:30 AM. Children's Church is at 10:40 AM (after they are dismissed from the Children's Message during the 10:30 service). Nursery is provided for infants and toddlers in the main sanctuary building. During the week, we offer Women's and Men's Bible Studies at 10:00 AM Tuesday and 9:00 AM Wednesday, respectively. Thank you to everyone who came out for our Blessing of the Animals service! We had a lot of fun, accepted a great number of donations for Palmetto Animal League, supported our K-9 working dogs with the help of Justice and Chief Chapmond, and it was beautiful day to praise God with the pets we love!
